Let’s get started.
Your health.
Pilates has something to offer people of all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes. The equipment can be used to provide support for beginners and people with certain medical conditions, as well as resistance for people looking to challenge their body. If you have any health concerns, such as a health condition or an injury, seek advice from your GP or a health professional before starting any exercise programme.
Clothing.
Comfortable.
You need to ensure that the clothes fit well and are not too revealing. Some of the key Pilates moves involve contorting your body into a variety of shapes. The last thing you want is to feel uncomfortable mid-session.
Simple.
Keep things streamlined. However, just because your Pilates outfit should be simple, that doesn’t mean that you can’t have some fun with it.
Form Fitting.
Form-fitting clothes are generally the best style for Pilates. This activity is all about the alignment of your body, which means that the instructor needs to be able to see your form.
Equipment.
If you’re attending my studio for a class I supply all the equipment that you’ll need.
Non slip mat.
This is the one essential item to get started. Mats come in varying thicknesses. Select one for your comfort and please make sure it doesn’t slip.
1m resistance band.
These can be used to assist in some exercises and to create resistance.
Small pilates ball.
A fun piece of equipment to challenge balance and stability in riders.
Swiss ball.
Excellent for riders to focus on balance and awareness. When selecting a size, please ensure that when you sit on it your hips are level or higher than your knees.
Yoga balance cushion.
Used in my studio a lot to challenge balance and stability in riders as well as releasing feet and lower back.
Yoga block.
These are useful aids for aligning and supporting head in lying exercises. Also useful as support in some exercises.
