How my pilates journey began.

I count myself lucky to have made a career out of the things I love. First in the equine industry, and more recently to including my interests of pilates, yoga and biomechanics.

It has been this progression and a continuous desire to improve and make a difference that has led to me launching my own company in 2015. I combine my technical knowledge and experience with a firm belief that whether you are a happy hacker or an Olympian you need to enjoy your horse.

For as long as I can remember, I have been obsessed with anything and everything to do with horses. From pony club, through juniors and beyond, every spare moment was spent riding, or reading or watching Dvds about riding, show, jumping, and eventing as well as anatomy and rider position.

My entire adult life and professional career have centred on all things equine. I have competed throughout, in all disciplines at affiliated level, including intermediate and 3 day eventing.

I began at a dressage yard, and was fortunate enough to regularly attend clinics with both Carl Hester and Michel Assouline. I did so whilst learning practically the fundamental principles and discipline required to run a professional yard.

This led to a further opportunity to work at Josh Gifford’s yard. It was here I really learned to stick in the saddle, as well as the importance of routine, soundness and fitness, in the fast-paced, unforgiving but very exciting world of racing.

It was clear that this equine life was for me. I went back to college to study an HND in Equine studies. I learnt in detail about the science and principles underpinning nutrition, fitness and equine anatomy, as well as taking opportunities for placements at first a stud and then an event yard.

About Lisa
About Lisa

Returning home I began bringing on youngsters and buying and selling ex racehorses and teaching , before taking a job running a private yard for the Clarkes for the next 15 years. Throughout this time I never stood still competing, but also learning and developing with a keen interest in yoga and pilates. It was during this time,I started a family and was looking for options to combine these passions. I studied hard, gaining qualifications to level three in first pilates, then Yoga as well as becoming an Equipilates affiliated instructor and Biomechanics trainer.

It has become clear to me through this experience and training, that the relationship with your horse and general wellbeing is central to success. Over the years I have worked with top riders who have struggled to achieve their full potential, due to stress, pressure or frustration. Equally, I have seen those at the other end of the spectrum, get the horse they have dreamed of, but lack the confidence to fully enjoy themselves.

I look forward to working with you to make the changes needed to reach your potential but above all, enjoy your horse.
